Brainstorming With Walt Disney

Walt Disney created a way to turn dreams into reality. His unique process for making decisions allows anyone to turn their vision into a success, whether you are a startup or an existing business.  

Walt divided the process into three distinct stages: the Dreamer, the Realist, and the Spoiler or Critic. The genius of this method was it allowed each stage to be fully developed without the nitpickers before handing off. The purpose of this process is to develop an Action Plan to implement the Dream.

While a separate room isn't needed for each step, it is essential to compartmentalize each stage to completely develop it before moving to the next.

• Dreamer Room is for brainstorming, where skys-the-limit thinking is done. Nothing is off the table. If we could do anything, what would we do? If money was no object, how would we develop this idea?
• Realist Room is for storyboarding. It's where the dream or vision is turned into something realistic and feasible. In business it is where the business model is developed.
• Critics or Spoilers Room is where the entire project is presented.  In these meetings the critics review all the ideas and try to find the flaws. What are the unintended consequences of each step, each decision.
  
  Critics ask the tough questions: Will it work? Is this the best we can do? How can we make it better? Does this make sense? How does it look to a customer? A client? An expert?
