God's Vision for Your Business
How to get it, keep it, build a plan to implement it, and what to do if you lose it.
"Where there is no vision the people perish..."
Proverbs 29:18
These are perilous times. As Thomas Paine said, "these are the times that try men's souls." If you do not know exactly where you are, what you are doing, where you are going as a business and have a plan to get there, you are at risk.
I cannot emphasize enough that the success of your business, whether new or existing, starts with the “vision.” And by vision, I do not mean a typical business vision statement, but the vision the Lord has for your business, both now and in the future.
Proverbs 29:18 says, "Where there is no vision (or revelation from God) the people perish, but blessed is he who keeps the law.” Another translation would be, "Where there is no revelation, people cast off restraint; but blessed is the one who heeds wisdom’s instruction.” And it’s this revelation from the Lord that I want to discuss.
One lesson I learned from doing workouts of troubled, or underperforming, businesses was that few had a clear vision for the business, and those that did, did not have a plan that could implement the vision.
For believers called to business, the Lord wants you to know, he has a plan for your business. The same as he has a plan, or blueprint for everything he builds. The example he gave me was for the Tabernacle in the wilderness that he gave to Moses. It is detailed and complete, nothing is missing. He even says who the workmen should be and how the funds are to be raised to pay for the Tabernacle.
This concept, that God would actually let you know, is hard for many believers to grasp. But I assure you it is possible. I've not only experienced it in my own life, but have worked with others that share the same testimony.
Everything God does has purpose. Everything created has been created according to a Divine blueprint drafted by the Divine architect. Everything that God causes man to create is to be created according to the Divine pattern, and this includes everything that needs to be restored.
As it says in Acts 7:44, “Our ancestors had the tabernacle of the covenant law with them in the wilderness. It had been made as God directed Moses, according to the pattern he had seen.
“Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.”
Jeremiah 33:3
How to get the Vision
For some this is easy, for others it is hard, and for some it seems impossible. Few see the vision clearly, others cloudy and some not at all. A few actually hear God's voice, some just know in their knower what they want to do, and others are just frustrated and confused. There is however a method you can use to discover the vision for your business. It’s about answering questions.
How to Keep the Vision
Even those who write the Vision down, rarely review the Vision and the plan to implement the Vision. This needs to be done on a regular basis. I recommend once per month. There is a way to do it that is not long or boring.
Turn Into A Business Model
This is all about planning. What it takes to plan. How to plan. When to plan. And remember, no business plan survives contact with the marketplace. You have to be ready to adapt without compromising the vision.
Lost Your Vision?
I'm often asked by failing businesses if the Vision can be restored. The answer. It depends. Existing business often lose their vision. It is one reason for so many business failures.
