Success is a state of mind, just like happiness. One persons definition of success might be different from another. To one success might be paying bills and providing for family, to another success might be growing a business to 100 million dollars in annual sales. Success is relative. And at times the more successful you are the more you see and hear from your relatives.
Called by God
If you have not been called by God to be an entrepreneur you will never be successful. No matter how well you do in the eyes of this world, you will still have an empty feeling, an unfulfilled feeling deep inside.
Have a Vision
Where there is no vision the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he Proverbs 29:18
Have a Plan
“Set up the tabernacle according to the plan shown you on the mountain” Exodus 26:30.
Committed to Being the Best
“Bring the best of the firstfruits of your soil to the house of the Lord your God” Exodus 23:19. And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him Colossians 3:17.“Say to the Levites: ‘When you present the best part, it will be reckoned to you as the product of the threshing floor or the winepress’” Numbers 18:30.On this mountain the Lord Almighty will prepare a feast of rich food for all peoples, a banquet of aged wine—the best of meats and the finest of wines Isaish 25:6.
Jesus said to the servants, “Fill the jars with water”; so they filled them to the brim. Then he told them, “Now draw some out and take it to the master of the banquet.” They did so, and the master of the banquet tasted the water that had been turned into wine. He did not realize where it had come from, though the servants who had drawn the water knew. Then he called the bridegroom aside and said, “Everyone brings out the choice wine first and then the cheaper wine after the guests have had too much to drink; but you have saved the best till now John 2:7-10.“Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a workman who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth” 2 Timothy 2:15.
Good Servants
Jesus called them together and said, “You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their high officials exercise authority over them. Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to first must be your slave—just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” Matthew 20:25-28.
Customer/Client Oriented
“Do not use dishonest standards when measuring length, weight or quantity. Use honest scales and honest weights, an honest ephah and an honest hin. I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of Egypt.” Leviticus 19:35-36.
“Do not have two differing weights in your bag—one heavy, one light. Do not have two differing measures in your house—one large, one small. You must have accurate and honest weights and measures, so that you may live long in the land the Lord your God is giving you. For the Lord your God detests anyone who does these things, anyone who deals dishonestly.” Deuteronomy 25:13-16.
Honest scales and balances are from the Lord; all the weights in the bag are of his making. Proverbs 16:11“Shall I acquit a man with dishonest scales, with a bag of false weights?”
Value Employees
Look! The wages you failed to pay the workmen who mowed your fields are crying out against you. The cries of the harvesters have reached the ears of the Lord Almighty James 5:4.
For the scripture says, “Do not muzzle the ox while it is treading ou the grain,” and “The worker is deserves his wages.” 1 Timothy 5:18.
“When you enter a house, first say, ‘Peace to this house.’ If a man of peace is there your peace will rest on him; if not, it will return to you. Stay in that house, eating and drinking whatever they give you, for the worker deserves his wages. Do not move around from house to house.” Luke 10:5-7.
“When evening came, the owner of the vineyard said to the foreman, ‘Call the workers and pay them their wages, beginning with the last ones hired and going on to the first.’” Matthew 20:8.
Values Suppliers and Other Stakeholders
A good business owner values those who supply products and services to his business. He does what he can to foster and keep good relationships. It means keeping open lines of communication. It means paying bills on time (or when emergencies arise making arrangements to pay).
